Bola Hauz Mosque

Bukhara Bola Hauz Mosque Constructed in the year 1712, the Bola Hauz Mosque can be known as the Mosque of the Bola Lake, referring to an octagonal pool in a public square of Bukhara. It was built in dedication for the mother of the Ashtarkhanid ruler Abu'l Fayud Khan (1711-47), Bibi Khanym. Initially it was applied as a function of a royal mosque, it is now being seen as a public monument because the nearness to the famous Registan Square.

The Bola Hauz consists of a corridor that faced east taking you to a spacious square with a domed hall accompanied by an auxiliary house to its north, west and south. The eastern corridor is seen with a high ceiling which supported by thin wooden columns and artistic designed walls which hide the domed house. The 20 beautiful columns are created from walnut wood and poplar wood, placing in two rows. Staircases can lead you going up to the roof top at the either side of the walkway. The rooms built by the side of the eastern wall see this way with windows figured by 12 iwans (vaulted spaces).

The Bola Hauz Mosque is renowned for its colorful appearance and wood carvings on columns in the corridor and the ceiling, which are combined as one of the best examples in Central Asian architecture.
