Site of Xanadu Museum

 
Xanadu Musem (Yuan Shangdu Museum, 元上都博物馆) is the biggest private-sponsored museum in Inner Mongolia. Consisting of eight halls, it harbors over 60,000 pieces of artifacts, among which many are unearthed from the Site of Xanadu. It is a place to unravel the mystery and splendor of the Yuan Empire and to sample the Mongolian people’s unique nomadic lifestyle and tradition.

A dazzling collection of ceramics, bronze wares, jade, fossils, wooden weapons and ancient coins will make you hard to move the steps.
 
 
Prelude Hall: stepping into this hall, the glory of Yuan Empire will be revealed before you slowly. The Yuan Empire Territory map and models will give you a first impression of its peerless massiveness. As we know, the territory of Yuan Empire is three times the size of nowadays’ China. The statue of Kublai Khan towers over the hall with a kingly air. Kublai Khan is the grandson of Genghis Khan and the first emperor of Yuan Dynasty.

Both of who have rewritten the history of the world. Genghis Khan has created numerous miracles: he launched the biggest war in human history; he conquered over 40 countries and 700 ethnicities with a troop no more than 200,000 Mongolian soldiers; he built an empire which was three times the size of today’s China.

Kublai Khan united China and established the Yuan Dynasty. During his reign, Xanadu, his Summer Palace, rose meteorically from a frontier basement into a global metropolitan. During his reign, Yuan Empire became the most formidable feudal superpower in the world; During his reign, large-scale and in-depth cultural and economic exchange prospered among different ethnicities such as Han Chinese and the Mongolian people as well as among Asia, Middle East and Europe.
