Chamdo town is located at the east Tibet
, among the Hengduan Mountains and Three Rivers basin. It has the fame of ‘pearl in the eastern Tibet’. Since the Chamdo prefecture was established in Qing Dynasty, Chamdo town has always been the politic, economical, cultural and transport center of Chamdo district. It’s called the portal of eastern Tibetan. Regard Chamdo as the center, there is Sichuan
province to the east, Yunnan
province and Myanmar to the southeast, Tibetan Nyingchi district to the southwest, Nagqu district to the northwest, Qinghai province to the north and the capital of Tibet – Lhasa
to the west. It’s the hub of commerce and trade.
Chamdo Bangda airport is the world’s highest airport with the longest track. It’s 130 km away from the Chamdo town and currently opened the flight route to Lhasa and Chengdu
. Chamdo is a prosperous place in Tibet. You can find great hotels or common inns here, which can meet the need of travelers. In Chamdo there are also various kinds of restaurants. Chuan cuisine is popular and easy to find. Travelers from all over can get adapt to it. However, due to the shortage of many materials, many daily necessities need to be imported; the taste of the cuisine might not be that authentic.
In Chamdo prefecture there is not only rich forest resources, but also rich medicinal resources. Various expensive medicines are distributed in Chamdo County. Chamdo is located in the snow-covered plateau with high mountain and deep valley, extremely rich in flora and fauna. Chinese Caterpillar Fungus, Tianshan snow lotus, Rhodiola rosea L and Crocus sativus can all be found here. And the melon, fruit, pear and peach and other plateau fruits are also good shopping choice.
Chamdo’s main attractions include: In the first Tibetan Buddhist Monastery in this area - Qiangbalin Monastery; the origin temple of Gemageju faction – Gema Temple; the Bangda Prairie that is full of Chinese Caterpillar Fungus; the Karuo Relics and one of the most beautiful lakes on Tibet – Ranwu Lake.
