Guanzhong Academy


guanzhong academyToday in Xian, a lot of universities and colleges lie, the most famous ones are surely Xian Jiao Tong University, Northwest Polytechnical University and Northwest University. But 100 years ago, the most famous university in Xian was Guanzhong Academy, which was established in 1609. In Ming and Qing Dynasties, Guanzhong Academy was ranked first in northwest China. Currently, the old site of Guanzhong Academy is Xian Normal School. For more than 400 years, Guanzhong Academy keeps the mission of education. Guanzhong Academy boasts the living ancient academy.

Enter South Gate, and go forward about several meters and then visitors can see the Ancient Culture Street of Academy Gate. Going through the Pailou and walking along the streets, people can see Guanzhong Academy among the traditional style buildings. It is hardly easy to find Guanzhong Academy until you find the statue of Feng Congwu who was the master of Chines traditional education. Behind this statue, there is Guangzhong Academy. After 400 years, Guanzhong Academy well preserved the architectural style of Ming and Qing Dynasties as well as the basic structure of buildings. Feng Congwu was the founder of Guanzhong Academy. Feng Congwu was clean-handed official in Ming Dynasty and never bow himself to the authorities. Late, he resigned and came back to his hometown to begun his life of educator.
