Shaanxi History Museum is located in the northwest side of the Big Wild Goose Pagoda in Xi'an. Built in 1983, the museum was completed and opened on June 20, 1991. This is China
's first large-scale and modern national museum. Its completion marks the Chinese museums career entered into a new phase of development. This museum is "halls in the center, lofty tower on sides" Tang style buildings. The buildings are in order, forceful and solemn and blend ethnic traditions, local characteristics and spirit of the times in one.
Shaanxi is one of the nations lived and multiplied, the birth of Chinese civilization, and the development of an important region. Most glorious Zhou, Qin, Han and Tang in history of China totally thirteen dynasties had set their capital here. Rich cultural relics and heritage formed a unique historical and cultural feature of Shaanxi. The Shaanxi history museum, also known as the pearl of the ancient capital and Chinese treasure is the art galleries showing ancient Chinese history, culture and civilization.
After the completion of the Shaanxi History Museum, Centralized collected 37 million pieces precious cultural relics unearthed in Shaanxi Province. Typical collections are the following eight categories: Bronzes, Tang Dynasty tomb murals, ancient pottery, ancient porcelain, ancient building materials, Han and Tang bronze mirrors, gold and jade and ancient currency.
Free open time: every Tuesday to Sunday, close on Monday (except for national holidays)
Winter (Nov.15 – Mar. 15) 9:00—17:30 (stops issuing tickets at 16:00)
Summer (Mar. 16 – Nov. 14) 8:30—18:00 (stops issuing tickets at 16:30)
Limited 4000 free tickets issued daily (2500 tickets issued before 14:00 daily, 1500 tickets issued in the afternoon), until the tickets run out.
For FIT tourist (with I.D or valid certificate) one ticket for each, valid on the day, expired afterward.
For group visit, 24 hours reservation is needed (9:00—17:00). Reservation method includes phone and Internet. After confirmation, come with introduction letter or travel agent assign letter to collect tickets.
