Water Cube

Membrane structure is a brand-new architectural style and the symbolic representative of international architecture in 21st Century. So far, it has been one of the main forms for long-span architecture in space. It embodies the architectonics, structural mechanics, chemical industry, materials science and computer technology. The dimensional structure form is built. It is not only showing the beauty of power in structure, but also the design idea of the romantic space of nature from architects. In 2008 Beijing Olympics, such a
architecture style will be thoroughly revealed.

Water Cube is the largest membrane-structure project in the world today, the surface of this architecture is made from ETFE, a special material. The surface is unexpectedly soft but solid and stable. Such kind of material could last for 20 years, but in fact, it will last longer. People could walk on it and feel very comfortable. Currently, all over the world, there are only three firms which are able to make such membrane structure. In accordance to the energy-saving standard of stadium, the membrane structure is designed well in heat insulation. The structure is sturdy and durable. Even if it is broken somewhere, the restoration will not be demanding. For example, if some sharp things poke into the material, the monitoring computer will show the sign automatically. If there is a hole, some glue is enough.

Membrane structure has the capability of drainage, moist resistance and fog resistance, especially the capability of dew-proof, which is quite necessary for a swimming stadium.
