Hui Nationality

The Hui Nationality (回族, Huízú) is the most widely distributed ethnic group in China. No matter who adopts this Chinese name, he is very thoughtful because Chinese character”回" consists of two ”口"(口,means mouth), we could tell from literary, it correspond with Mohammed’s propaganda and education which is matching word to deed.

Ancestors of the Hui People

During the middle of seventh century, with the open up of the sea route and Silk Road, numerous Persian and Arab Muslim merchants came to coastal cities in China, such as Guangzhou and Quanzhou and also some interior cities like Changan(nowXian) and Kaifeng. Not only just for the business, they also settled down and married to the local women. Later, at the beginning of the thirteenth century, Mongolian army headed to the West and conquered Arabic countries there. When they returned in triumph, a large number of Muslims working in business, education and art area also migrated into the Yuan Empire and lived scattered all over the country. From then on, till the end of Yuan Dynasty and the beginning of the Ming Dynasty, these Muslims, absorbed some Han people, Mongolians as well as Uyghur, together with descendants of Arabs and Persians who moved to China in the old days, formed a new ethnic group in China: the Hui people
