Formula 1 UBS Chinese Grand Prix Tips 2012

Shanghai International Circuit Formula 1 Race Track

Located in the most-developed economic center of Yangtze Delta, The Shanghai International Circuit is definitely the most advanced one in the world.

The Circuit is situated in northwest of Shanghai, making Shanghai International Automobile City and Jiading New City its neighbors. The modern track was designed by circuit architects Hermann Tilke and Peter Wahl, in the shape of the Chinese character “shang” (上) which means “above” and is also the first word of the name of the city. The 5.4-kilometer racing track is embedded with a bunch of typical Chinese elements which have been designed and constructed with modern ones. The 400-meter main grandstand is an example of the smart combination: the two red columns on each side of it stand for the two stone lions used to be set at both sides of the gate of a traditional Chinese house. The design of the light holes on the lotus-leaf-shape ceiling was inspired by Chinese lanterns. Besides, the seats are colored in traditional Chinese colors, red and yellow.

Besides its amazing appearances, the track is stunningly designed with 9 high-speed straights, 15 winding turns, and a drop height of 12 meters, making a high demands on the drivers and their cars. However, these also add excitements to the racing drivers and the audience as well as the competition.

7 Formula 1 Races in a row have been successfully held on this splendid circuit since it debuted in 2004. Formula 1 UBS Chinese Grand Prix must be another highlight of the race of 2012.

Transportation

Because of its carefully-chosen location, the circuit can be reached easily from the airports and subway stations stringed by highways, the outskirt ring road and the Middle Ring Road. It takes 40 minutes to the downtown, 30 minutes to Hongqiao Airport and 60 minutes to Pudong International Airport. The urban railway (the branch of line 11), shortens the driving time to the downtown and neighboring cities like Kunshan, Taicang, Wuxi and Suzhou.

The fastest way to go into the downtown from Pudong International Airport is to take an eight-minute-ride on the Magnetic Levitation train line. The airport shuttle buses are good choices too. Line 2 subway is the best choice to go from Hongqiao Airport.
