Shanghai Music in the Summer Air (MISA)

Shanghai Music in the Summer Air (MISA) started from 2010 is the first regular large-scale classical music festival in China and will be held every summer in Shanghai. And  2011 Shanghai MISA will be held from July 31 to August 13 in Shanghai Culture Square and Shanghai Oriental Art Center.This year’s music festival is supervised by musical director Long Yu from Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, musical director from Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and chief conductor Charles Dutoit of Philadelphia Symphony Orchestra.

Daniel Barenboim----an Argentinian-Israeli pianist and conductor

Not only does 2011 MISA provide traditional classical chapters but it also shows jazz and modern music. The highlights of the music festival are too numerous to be mentioned one by one: romantic great pianist Ivo Pogorelich will play piano in front of Chinese people for the first time; West-Eastern Divan Orchestra led by Daniel Barenboim will bring Beethoven’s music; Chinese young pianist Yundi Li( well known for being the youngest pianist to win the International Frédéric Chopin Piano Competition at the age of 18 in 2000) will cooperate with Royal Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Charles Dutoit to play Franz Liszt’s piano concerto no. 1; French composer Hector Berlioz’s summer night will reappear; Shanghai Symphony Orchestra will challenge itself to perform a jazz concern with jazz masters from Amsterdam; Chinese most famous soprano Zuying Song also will join in the festival.
