Tibet Travel Permit and Visa

 

Foreigners who want to travel to Tibet need to apply for two documents before they set off. One is Chinese Visa, which can be applied for in Chinese Embassy in one’s own country. The other one is Alien’s Travel Permit that authorized by Tibet Tourism Bureau.

Once you book Tibet tour with us, we will get the Tibet travel permit for you. But you need to provide your names, passport numbers, etc. The information is needed when we apply for the permit.
1. Your names as shown on your passports (to book hotel rooms)
2. The passport numbers (to book flights)
3. Your gender (needed when applying for Tibet Travel Permit)
4. Your occupation (needed when applying for Tibet Travel Permit)
5. Copies of your passports and Chinese visas (needed when applying for Tibet Travel Permit)
You can scan your passports and Chinese visas and email the scanned copies to me or you can fax the copies to 0086-571 8527 9099. Then we will obtain Tibet Travel Permit for you two. The cost is included in the all our Tibet tours.



The Tibet Travel Permit, TTP for short, is the tourist visa that foreigner and Taiwan visitors to Tibet must apply for. It is not necessary for Visitors from Chinese mainland and Hong Kong SAR, Macau SAR. Since only group tours to Tibet are allowed, visitors only have to hand in the relevant documents to the travel agency and then the agency will represent you to facilitate the application process, and the period of validity can not be changed or extended. Generally it needs three days to get the entry permit if you can supply all necessary documents. When buying the airline ticket to Lhasa, you should show this permit. And even check in at the airport when you fly to Lhasa from any city, you also need to show the Tibet Travel Permit. For individual foreigner visitors, you can go to the Tibet Tourism Bureau authorized local offices (Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu, Golmud) who are in charge of individual visitors’ matters. However, the foreigner journalists, diplomats, government officials are not allowed to enter Tibet, except under the arrangement of the Tibet government.

Visitors want to go to the Tibet border areas or unopened areas should apply for an Alien’s travel permit or PSB Permit issued by PSB of Tibet, the premise is that you’ve already got the Tibet Travel Permit. A singe permit contains all the people traveling together, but only mention one of them and stating how many other people accompanying him. And all people’s passports or copies of the visa should be provider in order to receive the permit. For people who want to experience overland tour from Yunnan, Qinghai and other provinces marginal to Tibet, they also need to apply for this permit.
